About the event

The Killingworth Community Choir is thrilled to celebrate a milestone - their 10th Anniversary! Join us for an unforgettable afternoon filled with music, joy, and community spirit as the choir takes you on a journey through a decade of harmony. Featuring a repertoire of beloved classics and contemporary hits, this concert promises something for everyone. Led by our musical director, Selwyn Thompson, the choir will perform alongside special guests and musicians, showcasing the talent and dedication that has made Killingworth Community Choir a cherished part of the town.

Be part of this momentous occasion and experience the magic of live music. Whether you’ve been with us from the start or this is your first concert, you’ll feel the warmth and connection that only singing together can create. Don’t miss the chance to celebrate 10 wonderful years of song, friendship, and community!

What's more, guest singer Paul Phoenix will be joining the choir. Paul Phoenix's long career in the music business spans six decades, from Ivor Novello Award-winning Chorister soloist at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, through seventeen years and two Grammy Awards as tenor in the world-renowned a cappella group, The King's Singers, with whom he performed more than 2000 concerts, to founder of PurpleVocals, a coaching consultancy which draws upon his vast experience as a singer and performer. His work not only as a speaker, coach, educator and mentor, continues to take him around the world as he shares his passion for singing and choral music. His coaching specialises in encouraging audience engagement with confidence-building with soloists, conductors, choirs and ensembles.

In 2019 PurpleVocals evolved and he became Executive Director of 'Paul Phoenix Academy', (PPA) in Hong Kong. PPA is a centre of Learning and Excellence, providing young musicians with engaging and inspiring music tuition in the heart of one of the world's most vibrant cities. In 2022 Paul joined with 'Vocasia', an award winning, all professional mixed voice ensemble in Tianjin, China, working closely alongside their artistic team to develop a long term, world-class learning programme in ensemble development.

As well as his work in Asia, Paul is Co-Artistic Director of Nomad Vocals, a collective of semi-professional ensembles across Finland, pioneering a new model of both online and autonomous learning for young singers.

Closer to home, he teaches young voices at the Junior King's School and International College in Canterbury, Kent, and loves being a part of the vibrant school communities.

He lives near Cambridge, with his wife of 30 years Helena and has two grown-up sons, Will and Ed. When not working he enjoys cycling vast distances on his bikes and supporting Manchester City!
