About the event

The search is almost over for the North East's next comedy writing talent as Sunday for Sammy showcases the finalists of the prestigious Sketch for Sammy competition.

Packed with fresh comedy and live music, Cal Halbert and Kelly Rickard introduce the shortlist of six comedy sketches to have made it through to the grand finale!

From script to stage, each aspiring writer’s journey reaches its peak as real proper actors take the stage to perform six shortlisted sketches written by the North East's best emerging talent with each sketch also considered for inclusion in the next Sunday for Sammy spectacular at Newcastle Arena in 2028.

Our expert judging panel has the tough task of selecting one overall winner to walk away with the prestigious Clement and La Frenais Comedy Award - an honour named after legendary Geordie writing icons Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais (Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Porridge, The Likely Lads, Flushed Away).

Show producer Ray Laidlaw promises a cracking evening of entertainment:

"Sketch for Sammy has become a wonderful way of discovering fresh comedy talent from across the North East. Every year we're amazed by the imagination, originality and humour people bring to the competition."

Join us for a fantastic Sunday night out and let’s celebrate our homegrown talent.

Sunday 18th October at The Exchange 1856, North Shields.

Doors 7pm, Showtime 7.30pm.
